Q1 on May 2010 paper - feynman beta plus decay
It says a Na Nucleus with nucleon number 22 and proton number 11 decays with Beta+ decay. It asks for proton and nucleon number of new nucleus which is 10 and 22 and then it asks to name the baryon and leptons given off. From feynman diagram of Beta+ is shows the baryon that is formed is the neutron and one of the leptons is the neutrino which I got, but then the other lepton it says is a positron? is this the β+ particle? I thought positron was e+? or is it both?? I think it is I just can't think!!

Yes a positron and Beta+ are the same.
A Beta particle is a fast moving electron.
A positron is the anti-particle of an electron
Thus it is the same but has + charge.
Hence Beta+ is a positron.
Sorry for the grammatics of this answer I would have liked to use symbols but I don’t know how.
I hope this explains your answer.

Beta symbol you can copy and paste: β and thank you haha! Figured it out eventually it was confusing me for a while..!! Are you re-sitting Unit 2?

I’ve already resat it an got a worse grade after working very hard, I think it is just a good idea for me to focus on the two units 4 and 5. Though i am doing mechanics 1 in maths which is like unit 2 except no waves and no moments

Re-sits
Joe - I think you are better concentrating on unit 4 and 5 too - let me know if you need any help
